Process
This work started as a quick and expressive exploration using charcoal - a kind of warm-up in the studio - a break from working in full colour pigment.
As with my recent smaller charcoal works, this allowed a focus on materiality, mark-making and essential forms.
This drawing also initiated a new iterative process in my practice of directly revisiting the themes and forms that emerge in one drawing in follow-up drawings - and so, this piece is the precursor to There is a furnace in me and Let's move out West.
